General Course Requirements
Interpersonal Communication
This course examines perspectives and research on verbal and non-verbal
elements of communication.
Success Skills
This course covers developing student’s success skills. Areas covered include
test taking skills, study habits, time management, goal setting, effective
communication, and patient service skills.
Professional Development
This course assists the student’s in developing effective job search skills.
Core Dental Assistant Course Requirements
Basics of Orofacial (oral cavity,
neck, and head) Anatomy
This course provides the student with a fundamental introduction to the
structures included in Orofacial Anatomy.
Introduction to Dental Assisting
Careers
This course provides the student with an overview of modern dental practice
and the specific job roles dental assistants play. Topics also include history
of dentistry, dental specialties, legal, ethical and professional responsibilities
of dental assisting.
Dental Materials
This course instructs the student in identification, properties, evaluation
of quality, measures and values related to proper handling and storage of
operative and specialty dental equipment and materials.
Dental Materials Lab
This is the companion laboratory class to the dental materials course described
above. Students will have the opportunity to apply their dental materials
knowledge in a laboratory environment.
Dental Radiology
This course provides the student with a comprehensive overview of the principles
and procedures of dental radiology.
Dental Radiology Lab
This is the companion laboratory class to the dental radiology course described
above. Students will have the opportunity to apply their dental radiological
knowledge in a laboratory environment
Dental Specialty Principles &
Techniques
This course explores dental specialties of endodontics, periodontics, pediatric
dentistry, and other specialty dental practices with emphasis on the role
that dental assistants perform in a specialty dental practice.
Dental Practice Management
This course provides the student with an evaluation of the principles and
procedures related to management of a successful dental practice.
Advanced Dental Operative Procedures
This course instructs students in advanced dental procedures involved in
restorative dentistry.
Advanced Dental Operative Procedures
Lab
This is the companion laboratory class to the advanced dental operative
course described above. Students will have the opportunity to apply their
classroom knowledge in a laboratory environment
Clinical Practice – Dental Externship
In the externship portion of training, students will have the opportunity
to demonstrate their skills in an actual dental clinical or dentist office
setting.
